cspg | Announced at an international iHobby show (2011), Dragon Models' 1:48 Apollo 11 Command Service Module (CSM): |
mode1charlie | Looks good, but I'm gonna be a nerd and say that some additional details would make a big difference: - Telescope/sextant mount (could be there but hard to see from the photo; it was not there on the 1:72).
- Outline the RCS engines on the CM in the brick red color as they were on the flight vehicles.
- High gain antenna dishes were dark gunmetal color, not gold.
- There was some sort of round bubble thing on the main hatch (I think it was a pressure release valve?)
- May be too much to ask for, but being able to separate the CM from SM would be great (would be easy to keep together with small neodymium magnets inside each piece.
So... nitpicky details, but for a 1:48 they will likely sell a lot more if it really adds something new that their 1:72 versions don't have. |
Rick Mulheirn | The 1/48 CSM/LM may lack some of the detail we would all like to see. But the scale of the model is such that it would make for an impressive display none the less. |
Daugherty54 | The detail can't be any worse than the 1/48 wood models. I certainly want to get one when they come out. |
Robert Pearlman | Here are a few quick shots. If there are specific details you'd like to see, let me know.
|
Daugherty54 | Thanks for the pictures. Does it have a similar stand to the 1/72? |
Robert Pearlman | It does have a stand, the same style as the 1:72 but scaled appropriately. |
dsenechal | Is this die-cast metal, or mostly plastic? |
Robert Pearlman | The service module body is die-cast; the command module and engine bell are plastic (the earlier is a shell rather than solid). |
randyc | Once again a little research would have shown that the hatch window was round. It doesn't look as if there is a hatch window on this model. |
Jay Chladek | Actually, if I recall my Apollo references, the window on the inside of the hatch is round. But the window on the outside of the hatch on block 2 CSMs is square. This one looks pretty good. While again I'll be waiting for a kit version (and I have seen listings for a kit version on the way), the finish of this seems good for an H mission CSM. At least this one doesn't seem to have the obvious flaws that the LMs in 1/72 and 1/48 have (I'll likely pair up a kit version of the Dragon CSM with a Monogram LM). |
GACspaceguy | Here are pictures of the outside and inside of the CM door window. I hope it helps answer the question on the CM window.
|
Robert Pearlman | Here is the poster announcing the model kit: |
model maker | I have Dragon's 1/72 Lunar Approach diecast and I like it. It looks pretty good to me especially the reflective chrome silver on the command module. Is the bigger 1/48 CSM the same quality as the smaller 1/72 versions? In the advertisements, the command module doesn't look as shiny as the smaller 1/72. Does anyone here have the 1/48 version or seen it? |
the clocks running | I own both the 1/48 and 1/72 Dragon Apollo CSM models and can verify that they are essentially the same. The finish and details are almost identical. The only real difference is the scale. |
model maker | What kind of glues are you guys using to attach the thrusters and other things we need to glue on the already painted surfaces as it comes out of the box? I didn't use standard model cement as that won't stick to painted surfaces. I used messy loctite and so far it holds but I am very careful when handling as the tiny parts will be hard to find if they fall off. How about superglue? Will that work on painted surfaces? |
cycleroadie | I have been Superglue-ing mine, so far so good.
|
model maker | Thank you. I was tempted to try regular model cement however I know that paint would need to be scraped away and didn't want to do that so used a little clear Loctite. Super Glue from here on for me as I think it will stick to a painted surface better than model glues. |
apolloprojeckt | Maybe a tip: be careful with Super Glue on black/dark paint color areas. You sure get white spots! |
bicyclezero | In case anyone was thinking of buying the Dragon 1/48 CSM - I wouldn't. I just got the "built up" version on eBay for a good price but the detail is very poor. Especially the crew hatch window being square - it just glares at you. The finish on the CM is incorrect as well and there isn't any way to join the CSM with the LEM if you wanted to. I'm thinking of buying the New Ware 1/48 detail set and applying their hatch to the model. |
model maker | The hatch window is square on the outside and round on the inside. What's wrong with the finish? Is it the same as the 1/72 diecast version and is the CM bright chrome looking like the 1/72 version? What is wrong with the detail compared to the 1/72 CSM? |
Meademan | For what it is, I think it is fine. None of the models in this sort of price range are ever going to be perfect, but quite honestly, for the money, I think it is great, and everyone who sees it thinks it is impressive too. Mine is in a display case. The larger scale of the 1/48, I think, is pretty impressive. |
belly | A bit of a long shot, does anyone have a spare "aft plate" for the Dragon Apollo 11 Command/Service Module 1:48, Kit 11007, Part A1. I've messed mine up unfortunately. Thanks. |
